1. How do you think your year went in grade six?
My grade six year went well looking back at things like math and reading. It was a year of new challenges - like mean, median, mode and range (within math), also things like Global issues really challenged me not only to get a good mark but to be creative and think outside the box too! I made great friends and my peers were - for the most part cooperative.
2. What was something that was very memorable?
Something very memorable was when we went on the field trip to deep cove where I went kayaking and hiking. I was very scared for kayaking, but when we started it was accually the highlight of my day! Another thing was in speech fest my speech on saving the oceans was pretty nerve racking getting up infront of the class!
3. Looking back at your reading comprehension throughout the year, what was the one thing you were most proud of (think back our literature circles or novels we read together)
My reading comprehension was good throughout the year. We read some amazing books called fish in a tree, Touching Spirit bear and my name is seepeetza. My favourite book was fish in a tree because unlike the other books it was the most relatable. I was really proud of an abobe voice project on fish in a tree, and Mr. Dorland gave me all 4's. Something I would like to improve on is learning how to expand my vocabulary and also how to spell new words correctly. I liked literature circles because our group would always give the characters different voices .
4. What was one thing that you struggled with in terms of reading and that you think you should continue working on?
One thing I think I could work on is my oral reading infront of others. I often get very nervous and stressed. It makes me thunk of all the mistakes I could make.
5. What writing piece were you the most proud of (personal, story or persuasive). What about it made you proud?
The writing piece I was most proud of was the magic egg story write I did, it was a beginning to a storyline was already there and you had to finish it. I was really pround because I had fun writing and it was really creative!
6. What was one thing that you think you still need to work on throughout all of your writing? How do you know you need to work on this?
In my writing one thing I need to work on is to write with more detail. Details are hard for me because I like other subjects like math and science. Another thing is rushing because I don't like spending a long time writing.
7. We have talked a lot about communication skills (how you communicate with peers and teachers in big or small groups) What is one thing you do well in terms of communication and one thing you still need to work on?
One thing I am good at is making the group laugh (at times) and I am also good at resolving arguments between friends (to some degree). One thing I could work on is maybe seeing others point or sides to the story instead of just assuming I'm right.
8. Do you think you do a good job of asking for help when you need it? How do you know you are good at asking for help or not?
I am often stubborn, I usually don't ask for help or accept others help because I think I can do it myself (not always). I will only ask for help if it depends on my marks or on a test. Its not I don't need others help, I just don't want it.
9. In math, we learned alot this year. Talk about a time when you struggled in math. What was it that you did to get better at it?
In math I struggles with integers (that might have been because I missed two days in the unit) but I really needed help. Mr. Dorland said I should visit Ms.Brennan. At the time I was hesitant but in the end it really helped!
10.What was one thing you were really proud of in math this year-something you think you did really well or a challenge you overcame?
I think I did well in decimals and for the first time I understood it after a lot of practice dividing, multiplying and relating that to percent and fractions.
11.We spent a lot of time learning about what Social Emotional Learning is. How do you self-regulate? How do you promote social emotional learning around you? (think of your morning Zones Of Regulation)
I like to self regulate by walking, listening to music or being by nature., I would promote self regulating by making posters and use social media to make people aware.
12.How did you like project-based learning? What were your strengths? What could you work on in the future?
I liked doing PBL because it is a great way to learn and it helps make friends and learn to share responsibility. I think I could learn to not be so crazy when we work and be more serious.
13.You experienced different types of innovative learning within the classroom such as classroom blogs, coding, choice, passion etc. How did this best support your learning? What did you like about it?
I liked the passion project because it takes learning into our own hands. Also I like blogging as a change. It allows us to add photos, different fonts and videos.
14. Every day you never sat in the same spot, you had a different seat to start your morning. How did this benefit your learning? What did you like about it?
In stead of sitting next to a person who you might not get along with, and sitting next to them for a whole month, instead one day you could be sitting next to a person you don't like, them the next day your sitting beside you best friend!
